Torridon's dramatic landscape is also a textbook midge habitat: damp glen floors, loch edges, and shelter from the prevailing wind. The lower ground around the Torridon Inn and the loch shore are the busiest areas.
The mountain paths climb quickly into wind and cooler air — if you're heading up Beinn Eighe or Liathach, the midge problem ends at about 300 metres.
